At the age of 18, I embarked on a journey to the United States from the former Soviet Union in search of a better life. Rather than starting my encounter with the legal system as an attorney, I first found myself on the other side – as a client. Many years ago, I faced vulnerability when my attorney had to decline further representation due to my financial constraints. Determined to navigate the legal terrain, I undertook the challenge of conducting extensive legal research to find solutions to my questions and triumph in my legal battle. After investing countless hours in the legal library, I discovered the answers I sought and successfully resolved my case with the guidance of a legal aid society attorney. This experience, coupled with the invaluable sense of victory, solidified my vow: when I eventually became an attorney, I would fearlessly and fervently represent my clients, ensuring justice prevailed.
